Hi, I’m Caroline!
Using a systemic approach, I focus on the “systems” that you are a part of – your relationships, family, socioeconomic class, physical environment, life experiences, etc. We will look at the impact of these systems to figure out what exactly might be hindering your progress toward personal growth and achieving the goals you want to work on in therapy.
I work to ensure that my clients feel safe and comfortable with me so that, as we untangle the complicated web that is “life,” they are supported and empowered to make the changes that allow them to take control of their lives. My goal is to help you figure out what balance looks like for you, and what tangible steps you can take to achieve that balance - within yourself and your relationships.
I have my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Edgewood College in Wisconsin and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Health Science (Human Development and Family Studies) from Indiana University-Bloomington. I have my ‘Prepare & Enrich’ Certification that has allowed me to work with couples both for pre-marital counseling and those seeking to enrich their marriage.
Focus & Approach
I have 10 years of experience working with couples and adult individuals (18+), and I particularly enjoy working with clients navigating life-stage transitions and seeking to improve their personal relationships.
I continuously work to be an ally and safe space for all people, especially LGBTQ+, BIPOC, body positivity, body neutrality, sex positive & kink, open relationships and non-monogamy communities.
Being a systemic therapist, I am trained to utilize techniques from all different therapeutic approaches based on my clients personalities and specific needs/goals for therapy. With that said, some common therapy approaches I use with clients are Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, and Gottman Method and EFT with my couples.
Over the past 10 years, I have worked with a wide variety of presenting issues, particularly relationship issues, communication skills, anxiety, self-esteem, depression, goal setting and stress management. I also have experience working with clients experiencing grief, chronic pain, and healing from past trauma.
I offer solution-focused strategies, explore family of origin patterns, support the development of boundaries and coping strategies and work to increase positive self-talk and self-compassion for my clients.
More About Me…
For me, I feel most at peace when I am working on something creative (crochet, painting, stained glass, etc) or hiking in the mountains. Both experiences really help me to stay grounded in the present moment, and being high up in the mountains gives me a sense of perspective that allows me to let go of my worries/stressors for a while.
Fun Facts:
I love hosting friends and family - planning menus, coming up with games, and setting up the decor all bring me lots of joy.
I’ve thrown the first pitch at a baseball game… and yes, it was as embarrassing as you’d expect. Thankfully my husband is the only one that has video evidence!
I finally found a method of movement that I love - dancing! Not in a professional way, not even in an “I’m okay with people seeing me dance” way, but in a “I throw on my Youtube workouts and by the end I am always in a better mood” way - and it’s awesome.
